NORTHSIDE MONTESSORI SCHOOL

Project Details

In April 2009, EPM was engaged by Northside Montessori School in Pymble to provide project management services for a project partially funded by the Building the Education Revolution (BER) scheme. EPM tendered and appointed the schools entire consultant team, including architects Brewster Hjorth, and led the project through concept design and preparation of documentation for development consent. The scope of the project was developed after careful cost planning to suit the school’s budget, and included a new building (incorporating 3 classrooms, library and kitchen), landscaping works, and refurbishment of two existing classrooms. The challenges and constraints of the site included a nearby riparian zone, and significant flooding issues which required the new building to be suspended and elevated.

EPM assisted the school with determining the most suitable approvals pathway for the project. The school ultimately elected to obtain an approval from the Nation Building and Jobs Plan (NBJP) Taskforce, which provided a fast-tracked approval when compared to assessment by Ku-ring-gai Council. A fully documented delivery method was selected, and EPM led the project through the preparation of documentation for tender and construction, and managed the tender and award to a head contractor. EPM assisted the school in developing detailed staging plans and arrangements to manage the disruption to classrooms and playground areas. Construction was subsequently completed successfully in 2010 with a final construction cost of $1.8M.
