ALCATEL LUCENT – RHODES HEAD OFFICE

Project Details

Alcatel-Lucent provides communications solutions to telecommunications carriers, internet service providers and enterprises for delivery of voice, data and video applications. Alcatel-Lucent has a global presence in 130 countries.

During 2007 and 2008, EPM managed the fitout of Alcatel-Lucent’s new Australian Head Office, in Rhodes. The new office accommodated 1,000 staff and extended over 18,000m2 . The ground floor featured an extensive client interface area for sales presentations of Alcatel-Lucent products, and a flexible auditorium space for 200 people. The project involved the integrated design of the base building to suit the needs of Alcatel-Lucent, and the relocation of over 900 staff from three locations across Sydney. EPM managed the consultant team to design the office fitout, managed the tender of the works and the appointment of a Principal Fitout Contractor, and supervised the construction contract. The offices were completed on time in December 2008.

A key challenge for the project was the delivery of the Alcatel-Lucent Laboratory on Level 1, a large computer room of approximately 2,000m2, housing Alcatel-Lucent’s telecommunications and server equipment. The laboratory involved extensive and complex services provisions and necessitated the staging of the building works to allow the relocation of Alcatel-Lucent’s equipment from the original premises at Alexandria in advance of the relocation of staff.

Since the completion of the head office project, EPM has managed numerous fitout and reconfiguration works for Alcatel across a number of properties in NSW. In 2009 EPM managed the fitout of an Alcatel University training space in a heritage listed building on UTS’s campus in Chippendale, and a reconfiguration of the head office to incorporate a second University facility and staff that were relocated from a property in North Ryde. EPM then managed the make good works to hand back the North Ryde property to Jones Lang LaSalle. In 2010 EPM managed services upgrade works to improve the reliability of computer lab air conditioning and alarm systems at Rhodes. In 2012 and 2013 EPM has managed separate reconfiguration projects at the head office intended to maximise the efficient use of real estate and to introduce a ‘hot desking’ system. During 2012 and 2013 EPM also managed two separate projects at Alcatel’s property at 280 Botany Rd, Alexandria, to replace the buildings lifts, conduct fire safety upgrades, and to carry out remedial and maintenance works to the façade. EPM has also assisted Alcatel with planning of office reconfigurations at properties in Melbourne.
